Deep Dive - BulkLoads Acquires Livestock Network, Consolidating the Vertical Freight Layer for Live-Animal Hauling
BulkLoads, the Springfield, Missouri marketplace that says it is North America's largest bulk-freight community with more than 10,000 carriers, shippers, and brokers, acquired Livestock Network, the load board that has organized live-animal hauling since 2000, for undisclosed terms on July 13. The deal folds a specialized hauling community into an ecosystem that already bundles factoring, insurance, a transportation-management system, and freight-market data, converting a listings board into a workflow and payments layer. General freight has consolidated around DAT and Truckstop, which together hold more than 85% of digital load matching, but no equivalent owns the livestock niche. The question for buyers is whether owning the network, the money movement, and the freight data compounds into pricing power competitors cannot rebuild.
Genus Lifts FY26 Profit Forecast Above Consensus on Genetics Demand and China Venture Milestone
Genus, the FTSE 250 livestock-genetics company behind PIC pig and ABS cattle genetics, said on July 14 it expects FY26 adjusted pre-tax profit near £98 million. That is up 32% year over year and above the £94.3 million to £96.9 million consensus range. The quarter also brought roughly £111 million in net cash from its new Chinese porcine joint venture with Beijing Capital Agribusiness, cutting net leverage to about 0.4x. Genus now holds acquisition capacity that Hendrix Genetics and Topigs Norsvin lack, and the balance sheet reloads just as its gene-edited, PRRS-resistant pork nears commercial launch.
Agropur Sells Fine-Cheese Business to Lactalis to Concentrate on Dairy Ingredients
Agropur, Canada's largest dairy cooperative at roughly C$8.9 billion in 2025 revenue, agreed on July 15 to sell its fine-cheese business, including the Oka and Saint-Hyacinthe plants and brands, to Lactalis, the world's largest dairy group. The unit is profitable but small, near 2% of revenue and 2% of milk processed, and the co-op cast the exit as a pivot to fluid milk, industrial cheese, butter, and ingredients. The sale extends Lactalis's Canadian branded-cheese position while Agropur echoes the ingredients logic behind recent Saputo and Fonterra moves. For capital allocators, the signal is that North American co-ops are trading specialty brands for scale in higher-volume ingredient streams.
Benford Capital's Nutrition Service Company Buys Seymour Flour Mill in Fifth Dairy-Nutrition Add-On
Nutrition Service Company, a dairy-nutrition platform backed by Benford Capital Partners, acquired Seymour Flour Mill on July 14. The family-owned mill, founded in 1967, supplies commercial dairies serving more than 20,000 cows in northeastern Wisconsin. It is the platform's fifth add-on under Benford ownership and adds density around its Pulaski, Wisconsin base, with President Rick Rottier and staff retained. Private-equity roll-ups of regional feed mills mirror the Bartlett and Shell Rock soybean-crush combination in reshaping localized feed-cost structure. Expect continued lower-middle-market consolidation of independent mills as sponsors build regional nutrition platforms toward a scaled exit.
Land O'Lakes Expands High-Value Dairy-Protein Capacity at Tulare to Capture GLP-1 Demand
Land O'Lakes said on July 10 it will invest to add high-value dairy-protein production, including ultra-filtered milk, at its Tulare, California facility, citing protein demand it expects to outpace supply through the decade. The cooperative tied the move to GLP-1 medications and the high-protein consumer shift, steering member milk toward higher-value protein rather than commodity output. The build echoes capacity expansions by Leprino and Glanbia as processors race to convert fluid milk into concentrates and isolates ahead of demand. The read-through is that real-milk protein capacity, not precision fermentation, is where incumbents are placing near-term capital.
U.S. Pork Producers Ask USTR to Challenge China Tariffs as Waivers Near Expiry
The National Pork Producers Council filed comments with the U.S. Trade Representative on July 10, urging action against China's pork tariffs, subsidies, and sanitary barriers as Section 301 waivers near their end-of-2026 expiry. U.S. pork and variety-meat exports to China fell 21% in volume and 23% in value in 2025, to 367,416 metric tons and $857.46 million. China still absorbs 59% of U.S. variety-meat exports, with no substitute market at that scale. Even a favorable ruling would take years to reroute supply as Brazil locks in displaced share, so producers should treat the waiver deadline, not the filing, as the binding date to watch.
